Formula Palmer Audi Driver Andrews on the road to recovery (31-7-09)

18-year-old on the mend after Oulton Park accident

Formula Palmer Audi racer Kenny Andrews is on the road to making a full recovery following an accident at Oulton Park last weekend (24/25 July). The Essex-born driver was involved in a collision with Paul Rees during free practice and unfortunately suffered a non-displaced fracture of his T6 vertebra, although the youngster is expected to make a return to full fitness.

"I'm OK," said Kenny. "It is pretty painful but I can walk about already. It is basically two cracks in my back, but the bone hasn't moved so I will be 100% fit in time. It was quite a strange accident really, I was on a quick lap and I was trying to overtake David Rotar coming out of Druids. I think Paul Rees was in front of him and he moved across and maybe braked to let Rotar by - it was right in front of me and I couldn't stop in time. I hit the back of Rees' car and was dragged along by his back wing before I was kind of catapulted in the air - it was the slap back down on the track that did the damage. It was quite a heavy impact."

"It looks like my season could be over, which is a shame," concluded Andrews. "I can't do any work for eight weeks and I won't be able to race for at least three months. The most important thing however, is that I will make a full recovery and will be able to go racing again in the future."

Everyone at Formula Palmer Audi, PalmerSport and MotorSport Vision would like to wish Kenny a speedy recovery.
